Town Meetings

As you may recall Gerry and I told you we would be holding “Town Meetings” at various locations from time to time.

Over the past 3 months we have held one at B-2 and last night at the Family Justice Center. Our agenda is pretty simple WE don’t have one.  The floor is YOURS to discuss whatever concerns/ issues you would like to address . These meetings are not about hearing us talk, they are about listening to you.

At the meetings we held conversations about the following Occupational Health Unit (Drug Testing), parking at HQ, and supervisor vacancies.

The following is a brief summary of questions and answers that the Detectives at the FJC brought forward.

Question: Why do they cut so much of my hair from so many places when I go for may drug test?(some as many as 9 places)

Answer:  Because they have to collect a certain amount of hair (3 samples). Those samples have to be a certain size and the collector takes hair from several different sights so as not to leave a pencil size bald spot on your head.

Question: Can the Department increase the amount of parking in front of HQ for people going to the medical unit?

Answer: I have asked the Chairman of the Labor management committee to discuss this with Management at their December 20th meeting.

Question: When will the department fill the superior detective vacancies at the FJC?

Answer: I have forwarded this question to Sgt Det Fong the Superior Detective VP for follow-up.

We also discussed in limited detail the bargaining process and our hopes to secure a fair contract along.

The last question and one that we hear from time to time.

Question: Why do we let the Department do things to us or treat us this way?

Answer: WE DON’T , but where they at times do things that we don’t like WE must follow a certain procedure to address these issues and we will address these issues with all the resources we have at our disposal.

You are our eyes and ears out there please keep us informed as we will you
