| From the first issue of "Simon Says" 2/15/2007 We have begun a new era for this society. We have joined the Fraternal Order of Police via their Legal Defense Plan. The FOP is recognized as a leader in the Labor Organization for various Police Organizations throughout the country. We look forward in working with the FOP. We are known as FOP Lodge #82 Along with being a member there are many benefits that go with this FOP organization. Check them out at http://massfop.org/index.htm. As you all are well aware, our numbers have dwindled to 110 Detective Superiors, presently there are several positions where new members will be rated and joining our ranks soon. We have been working hard to replace the voids left by transfers and or retirements. Within the past few weeks there have been a few changes within the Boston Police Department and one that sticks out is that the District Detectives are now back to where they should have always been in the Department's Organizational chart. That is the Bureau of Investigative Services. I need for all Detective Superiors be aware and make sure that our work product and job functions are not being performed by any other Bargaining Units. "Our work is our work". Recently there has been a call for the use of the Crime Scene Response Unit for B&E's. This is the work of our Detectives and one of their job functions. We need you to make sure that the Detective Superior or the Detective from your district responds and evaluates the crime scene, fingerprints, collects evidence, photographs, interviews witnesses and whatever else that may be necessary. We don't want the CSR units to respond taking our work away from us and most of all doing what we should be doing. You can contact me or any of the Superior Directors if you should become aware of any violations. At present the Superior Detectives bargaining committee has been meeting with the City of Boston along with the Detectives and we all have been working hard to get what is best for all our members. I feel that this will be a long road, hopefully and eventually paved with a very nice economic benefit package. ....Read More | |
