Keeping you Informed August 9, 2011

Fellow members of the BPDBS after taking some of my own advice I am just returning from vacation.  I hope you will excuse the fact that this update is a little late.

I’m sure by now you are all aware that the Quinn Bill was ZERO funded in the budget signed just before the end of July.

What this means to us at this point is as yet unknown. A letter was sent to the Office of Labor Relations at City Hall and we are still waiting for a reply.

Our questions, when should we expect to see the effect of the zero funding and what will the cost be? We can only hope at this point is that we prevail in our case at the SJC. We will post any information and keep you advised as soon as it becomes available.

On the Grievance front, as expected our Step III hearing regarding the circumvention was denied. I have asked our Attorney to move this issue on to Arbitration. A step II hearing was filed regarding one of our Forensics Group members “Working out of Grade” and will be heard on the 10th.I can only repeat the process is long and frustrating but we cannot allow our contract to be violated. Just as we are expected to follow the rules so is management.

A letter from the election committee should have been received at your home announcing the upcoming elections. The elections are scheduled for September 13th 2011 from 12pm to 8pm at the Union Hall. On the ballot will be the following positions Vice President (Superior Detectives) Vice President (Detectives), 5 positions each for Directors (Superior Detectives and Detectives) and Treasurer. Anyone interested in any of these positions should submit a letter of intent to the Secretary or file it at the Union Hall by August 24th 2011. You must file a “Letter of Intent” for your name to appear on the ballot. If you have any questions regarding these positions or how to obtain an Absentee Ballot please feel free to contact the Union Hall at 617-325-3938 or email me at famolaret@bpdbs.netThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Absentee Ballots and Phone Votes will not be accepted on the 13th of September. Please come out and show your support to the candidates, come out and vote and show your support of the Union
Please note: If you did not receive this letter it is possible we do not have a correct address for you. Please contact Jen Dunford here at the office or by email dunfordj@bpdbs.netThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and update your information.

This year’s Retirement Banquet will be held October 22nd 2011 at Lombardo’s in Randolph. Planning is well underway for what we hope will be a memorable event. This year we will be honoring 13 of our retiring members along with several “25 year “Detectives and the Detective(s) of the Year”. We hope as many of our members who can attend will.

FREE PASSES to the Aquarium and Children’s Museum will be available soon through the Union. Information will be posted on the website or you can contact Jen at the Union Hall or via email

This September I will be completing my 1 year term as Vice President I have tried to get as much information out to you the membership as possible and I think I have succeeded.
The Grievance Committee has worked hard for you and the day to day operation of the union continues in a professional manner. It has been a great experience, one I hope will continue.

As always Gerry and I are available to answer any questions or address any concerns. Please feel free to call or stop by the Hall.

Respectfully
Keeping you informed
