Congratulations to Lieutenant Detective James Gaughan (C-11), Lieutenant Detective Mark Harrington (LIC), Lieutenant Detective Paul Ivens (BIS), Sergeant Detective John Conroy (ACU), Sergeant Detective Donna Gavin (SAU/FJC), Sergeant Detective Timothy Horan (IAD), Sergeant Detective Michael Linskey (FJC/SAU), Sergeant Detective Brian McMasters (BRIC), Sergeant Detective Marwan Moss (IAD), Sergeant Detective James O’Co n n o r ( B R IC) , Sergeant Detective John Rouvalis (ACU), Sergeant Detective Marc Sullivan (Hom), Sergeant Detective Matthew Whalen (BIS) and Sergeant Detective Steven Whitman (OPC) on their recent promotions. A well deserved applause.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Detective Richard Sexton on his promotion to Captain and Sergeant Detective Gerald Bailey on his promotion to Lieutenant. These two will be leaving us and hopefully will return to our membership in the near future.

On another front I spoke to Attorney Paul Hynes relative to filing two (2) Labor complaints with the COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS LABOR RELATIONS COMMISSION for: 1. change of working conditions re: lost of take home motor vehicles, and 2. the failure to bargain re: implementing an on-call status.

I would like to think that every member knows we do not have contractual on-call status and as such are not obligated to come in when called upon. But I know that many of us are professional and will do what they individually think is right.  There is an option to leave your beepers and cellular phones at the office when you leave at the end of your tour of duty. We are asking that you respectfully obey all orders as we try to resolve these issues. When you are put on an on-call status, we want you to submit an overtime slip from the end of your tour of duty till the next covered tour. Please make and forward any copies of any orders that place you on an on-call status, and any other relevant memos that can help us.

Some would say that half the loaf is better than no loaf at all. That may be very true. At a Labor Management meeting the committee discussed with Deputy Lee and Deputy Lydon the training issue. We were told that in the near future there would be a Detective Superior assigned to the Academy who will over see our future training.

If you have not filed for the Homestead Act, then get your head out of the sand and do it now. Your primary residence, shall be protected against subsequent attachment, levy
on execution or sale to satisfy debts to the extent of five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) per residence, per family. The cost to you is $35.00 and all you need to do is fill out the forms and get it to Probate Court. This is a nobrainer. Don’t forget that your Homestead must be notarized. The Officers of the Union are Notary Publics. Check out this site
for Q&A. http://www.sec.state.ma.us/rod/rodhom/homidx.htm

There will be a BPDBS/Lodge #82 Christmas Party for our members at the Frank DiNatalie Society Hall on December 21, 2008 12:00 PM-4:00PM
Please bring a wrapped gift so that Santa can hand it out your child. We are asking that the wrapped gift be valued at no more than $15.00.

Total Detective Superior membership is 128 as of Nov. 01, 2008 We are all well aware of some of the great work that our Detective’s perform, so we are requesting
that Supervisors, acknowledge their work by writing up commendations and submitting them to the BPDBS Awards Committee.
“Remember you are our eyes and ears, when in doubt call us”
