SAU- On Call Decision
On September 11, 2009 the DLR found probable cause to exist that the City violated the CBA with respect to the on call implementation at SAU.
Mediation and hearings to follow. I will update this posting as information becomes available.
Due to the concerted efforts of the BPDBS leadership, in discussion with Police Commissioner Davis, the BPD has agreed to increase the hours for outside employment from the present 20 hours to 32 hours.
Our union is presently the only union to have obtained this benefit. All requests for outside employment still have to be obtained through the Police Commissioner's office.
Our thanks to Commissioner Davis for realizing the financial difficulties our members face in this economy and for acting on our request so expeditiously.
FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT
On September1, 2009 following a SJC decision in the BPPA case, Attorney Paul Hynes sent a bargaining demand to the City’s Office of Labor Relations.
The Department has informed the City Auditor that the BPPA members have been returned to a 7 day/40 hour work period. The BPDBS had hoped that its forbearance in litigating this matter would be viewed as a gesture of good faith and that the BPPA case would be dispositive of our situation.
Attorney Hynes is still awaiting a response to his letter of April 6, 2009 citing his previous bargaining demand.
